AVxceleration (AVX)
AVxceleration (AVX) is a real-time simulator that computes the physics of machine vision sensors (optical, radar, lidar and thermal). Combined with a vehicle dynamics simulator (Carla or CarMaker), Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAV) can be simulated to take advantage of digital twins. This allows for faster and cheaper development time than constructing physical prototypes, as well as the ability to test extreme operating conditions (precipitation, temperatures, etc.).
The simulation team has digital twins of the Area X.O site and its physical assets. This includes human-size test mannequins, with actively controlled heat signatures, as well as Lexus autonomous technologies and smart intersection sensors.
AVX Pedestrian
This video demonstrates the testing capabilities at Area X.O with the autonomous Lexus driving in testing Zone 1. The vehicle stops at the smart intersection, where it waits for a mannequin and other traffic before it continues its trajectory. The radar and lidar data collected from sensors onboard the Lexus for the trajectory are also visualized.
