The team has developed a digital twin of the Area X.O site, as well as the Area X.O autonomous Lexus. Sensor configurations and autonomous driving algorithms can be tested in the simulation environment prior to setting foot on-site with the support of Ansys AVxcelerate. The development of new optical cameras or radar sensors can be supported with Ansys Speos or HFSS to accurately predict their performance before they are even made.

On October 12, 2017, BlackBerry QNX partnered with Invest Ottawa, the City of Ottawa, Novatel, and Cohda Wireless to become the first municipality in Canada to launch testing of an on-street automated vehicle (AV) communicating with live City infrastructure.
